I was really excited to catch up with ‘Ruby’ so I could share a little about her with you

🌴How did you hear about the Pageant?🌴

I’ve been following Dixie Delight online for a couple years now and when I heard that she was coming to Vancouver Island with the West Coast Pinups I was thrilled since I have yet to make it to the Mainland for the other pageants!

🍍What was your question and answer at the Pageant? 🍍

My question was what brought me to the pin up lifestyle and what advice would I give to those interested in the pinup lifestyle? I had a loooong answer because I had so much to talk about when it comes to the pinup lifestyle! I got into the pinup lifestyle through my love of swing dance and jazz music! I idolize the old Hollywood stars like Rita Hayworth, Ginger Rogers, Debbie Reynolds, and Bettie Page and the everyday glamour of the women of the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s! Even to just wash dishes or go to the store, these women had perfectly pinned hair, red lips and nails and perfect outfits! Today we don’t see a lot of that, which is why I think pinup is making such a comeback and why I like to glam up, even if I don’t do it very often! As for advice for those looking to try out the pinup lifestyle, I would say to start small and easy and go from there! It can be very overwhelming trying to do it all at once, with the hair, make up and outfits and it takes time and practice, so start out by finding some vintage outfits that you like and are comfortable in, either new or used, and then practice doing your hair on a night where you don’t have to do anything, that way you look marvelous at home and if it doesn’t work out, no problem! YouTube is also a great tool for looking up tutorials for how to retro style your hair, make up and clothes!

🌴What was the best part of the Pageant for you? 🌴

Oh man probably meeting Bianca Bombshell! I’ve been a huge fan of hers for years and when I saw that she was going to be attending as I judge, I just about lost it with excitement! She was so gorgeous, sweet and friendly, gave everyone big hugs and was incredibly supportive of all of us!

🍍How long have you been involved in the Pinup/Rockabilly community. 🍍

We’ll I actively started learning how to style my hair and make up about 2012 but I have been swing dancing since 2005 and I grew up listening to old crooners like Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and watching old Hollywood movies so I think I’ve kind of always been this way, I just needed a creative outlet to let it shine!
