Darling Dames, Retro Leopard Stud Earrings

Darling Dames, Retro Leopard Stud Earrings.

For a girl who adores Leo Print I came to realize I don’t own a lot to account for that love. I have decided it is time to change this and start building my collection and the Retro leopard stud earrings at Darling Dames was the best place to start.

These fashion earrings are made in the shape of a heart with the leopard print center detailed with rhinestones. The backings that come with the earrings have larger backs so the earrings sit nicely on your ear.

The earrings are a nice size and the shape being a heart is flattering to the jaw line/bone. They have a very vintage look and once I put my leopard dress on I was quite thrilled how the two came together.

I found them to be the purrr-fect addition to my collection and do believe I will get a fair amount of wear from them.

These earrings came from Darling Dames, an on-line shop.

I came across their FB Page first and then I realized the Page was one of their social media platforms. I decided to go window shopping and found myself captured by a few items on the site.

I have often said that my purchasing experience is as important as the product I am acquiring. Owner Jessica was an absolute Doll and was willing to move heaven and earth to ensure my items were going to meet my needs.

She tells me the on-line store is growing and new merchandise is being added. Jessica has a background in Retail and Merchandising and Darling Dames was established in 2011 as a small physical retail shop in Taylor, Texas and has since moved on-line to reach a greater clientele.

Darling Dames boutique is a small start up that’s desire is to cater to woman whose style is strongly influenced by current fashion trends and to provide them a moderately priced product trendy product in return. Darling Dames strives to meet concise customer service standards and it shows. You always want to return as a client when you are appreciated and treated like gold.

I would highly recommend checking out their site and.. xx

ROWENA Pinups & Pals Contest 2013

Ask me what I adore more than the Rockabilly culture, hands down it is animals.

Two years ago the clothing store Rowena in Edmonton Alberta https://www.facebook.com/Rowenaedmonton?fref=ts hosted an on-line photo contest to bring awareness to the Edmonton Humane Society. This was my first contest I had ever entered and closest to my heart.

Pin Dot Heidi

As I live on a farm with horses and other smaller critters animal care is a priority to us and is part of my daily lifestyle. Care is more than a four letter word to me as I made a commitment to these animals not only to love them, provide food, shelter and clean water as well as to home them in the best surroundings I can for the entirety of their lives.

If you have read any of my posts on my site http://www.bossmarebetty.com or seen posted pictures on my FB Page http://www.facebook.com/Thebossmarebetty/ you would know animal welfare and the relationship between man and animal are near and dear to me. I have a new age type of philosophy in regards to animals, their intelligence, spirit and ability to remain connected to a desire of offering un-conditional love, no matter the predicaments that had preceded them.

We know this first hand with our much loved dog Murray whom we brought home from our local shelter last Christmas. He was found in a barn with 40 other dogs tied up. As he is a senior he had been in the shelter for several months as puppies are the first to get re-homed as they have the cuteness factor.

Murray had something else we desired and his age was an asset to us. In the year Murray has been with us I have learned much about his capacity for trust and love. We do not know his full story and probably never will.

Murray

With his exposure to many dogs he has had to trust that the kids and our larger animals meant him no harm and this year we introduced a rescued kitten to our menagerie of animals that was bred to be used as live target practice.

When you let go of the past and stay in this current moment animals have a chance for recovery, rehabilitation or rescue as long as we do not hold on to these old images of them. It is time to give animals a greater respect.

Since this is the second contest for Rowena I decided to do something a little different, I wanted my photo to have a greater impact and awareness for the animals and for this I exchange this blog for votes/likes.

That’s right, read the blog post and don’t vote for me. This is an endeavour for the animals and let’s get the word out, its time to change our attitude of animals and their relationship to us and maybe we can start to change perceptions and an all too often scenario that plays out for some animals in their lifetime.

For this post I will be referring to the Edmonton Humane Society where a donation will be made by Rowena’s on behalf of the contest winner. Regardless where you are located you can google animal humane societies in your area to find ways you can help locally if you so wish.

This is a very thorough site which was well designed and offers a lot of information. It is important to know the Edmonton Humane Society is not affiliated with ANY other; not the Alberta SPCA, or the Canadian SPCA, they are solely on their own.

A couple of facts that floored me were that, it costs $6.6 million dollars to run the EHS every year! People’s donations make up 40% of the help they receive so this means EVERY dollar counts.

In Alberta when donating to a registered charity you can claim a % of what you donated in your income tax. I have attached a screen shot of a pamphlet found on-line from the Govt. of AB regarding charitable donations.

Edmonton Humane Societies Charitable Number 11923-1066 RR0001

There are many ways to support animal rescue and recovery, on the EHS website was a Wish list of sorts of the items that are needed in order to care and rehabilitate such a Pet food, Pet care items, Maintenance items such as zip ties and toothbrushes. The link below will take you directly to the page and what is needed.

Don’t have money yet you have time, although this page is titled for the kids I still think anyone can do these even if you are in a team environment you could do one of these as a cause.

Kids can help too.. Simple easy ways to help

I really felt connected to the EHS vision statement and felt it would be something we should all aspire towards.

Vision Statement

The Edmonton Humane Society leads the community in elevating peoples’ beliefs, attitudes and behaviours to enhance the quality of life for companion animals.

We as a race have a lot of power and control of choice and we have to make better choices when it comes to our animal friends. There is a plethora of ways an animal can find its way in need and I can assure you it is probably through no fault of their own.

Animals are not great gifts, they are cute as babies and they grow up. During this time one requires knowledge, time and space to handle what may arise just like raising a child. You will get out of an animal what you put into it and one should never conceive the gift of an animal/human relationship as something temporary.

Blessed are we, whom know the true love one receives from an animal. Let no man then cast that animal aside.

We owe a good life to all animals that walk along side us on earth whether they are small or tall, furry or scaly.

As there was much to see on the website I wanted to highlight and share one more piece and this relates to weather in both cold and warm climates. Although we are into Spring and I still have snow, as harmful as the cold can be, so is the heat.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and enjoy all the great pictures that are being posted for the contest. My photo was picked through the help of my FB Page Fans. xx

It’s all in the Details..xx

I had been dressing in a Pin-up flavour for sometime, always wearing a hair flower and skirt. It was the girly touches, the details that were embracing the feminine beauty of being a woman.

I came across this quote and it was then I understood and felt a deeper sense of connection.

This is assessable to us all.. xx

The EXCLUSIVE Heidi…

If it were not for the stars aligning perfectly in my favour I am not sure I would have looked further into this special edition PUG Heidi dress. As I am a collector of Heidi’s and my preferred retail shop being Rowena’s, you guessed it. This would be my lucky dress ❤

Word was out that PUG released an Exclusive Heidi dress in a decadent Red Floral print. The catch was that there are only 2 retail shops in the world that have been stocked and are selling this heavenly creation, Rowena’s and Top Vintage. I picked mine up through Rowena’s and their website http://www.retroglam.com

If you are connected to any other Pin Up Blogs, Pages or Groups you may have already started to notice a wave of reviews of the “Limited” edition Heidi, or the “Exclusive” Red Floral Heidi from PUG.

I am not one for jumping on a band wagon yet I had to snatch this beauty up while she was presented to me. How could I not have her be part of my collection.

My desire and perspective of this Heidi is much like that of a connoisseur. Her soon rarity and the presence she commanded through picture I knew she was the right colour direction I wanted to own.

I find this print to be unlike the rest of the Heidi prints available and I love that no matter the print the Heidi always look slightly different.

So here I am yet another PUG enthusiast eagerly waiting on the Post to see if their new dress has arrived. I really felt with this dress she would demand a stepping out party.

Weather is soon changing for me up North and I want to have ample opportunity to wear her.

This is by far the most glamorous of the Heidi prints in my collection and so I am getting excited to see how she will look on me.

As I do not get post daily or delivered to my home I had to drive to my post box 2 times to see if she was in. Disappointed on my first attempt, I left empty handed. Not the second.

It was hard to concentrate on driving home with the white postal package sat next to me as I did not have a way to open it until I was home.

Upon opening the parcel I noted the fabric of this Heidi was a little heavier weight which appealed to me knowing it would hang just right. I was really excited about the bold floral, a loud splash of red and green this dress hands down will have you noticed.

I proceeded to collect shoes, belts and crinolines to figure out how I should wear her. I started with white shoes and crinoline, then to red shoes and crinoline and stopped. I am yet to try black shoes and crinoline yet know it will work so I am not too concerned.

I wanted to make sure the reds matched and the whites. The dress is a very white “white” so this is something to watch for as I am not sure the white worked as well as the reds.

As I am going to town tomorrow and finally have the opportunity to wear her out I am pondering my hair flower colour and hand bag to match. I do think this is the most feminine of dress colours and I wish I had a function to attend as this dress would be fitting in a variety of celebrations.

If you have the chance to pick one up I highly recommend her as I am sure she would look fabulous on a range of ladies and I know I was lucky to add her to my collection.

This morning I tried her on again as she was purchased and then I went to town in her as I liked.

My NEW friend Heidi..

My NEW friend Heidi..

There was a long stretch of time since I had the privilege of owning a dress.

A few years back I did have a decent collection of casual skirts that were the colour infusion in my closet full of black tops, cardigans and sweaters. The only accessory I would be found wearing were my brilliantly coloured hair flowers and that was me.

My mental space had not yet crossed the threshold, from being in a cute way to being more of a sophisticated or elegant styling. Dresses that were assessable to me were not appealing and so I eventually stopped looking.

After a trip to our nearest city I was spotted wearing my hair flower and it was suggested to me to check out a retail shop that specialized in Pin-Up clothing. Although I had been dressing with a pin-up essence, I was not really conscious of how I was styling myself.

My sub-conscious styling at that time came from the influence of magazines that my husband purchased to keep up to speed with his passion of rods. As we live in the country on a farm my daily attire is anything but cute and going to our closest town did not offer any help.

The day I met Heidi, well she was handed to me by my hubby. This version of her was of a black background and a strong and bright red and green cherry motif. She had red piping on her edges and I had never seen anything like her before.

I was urged into a fitting room where I would try her on. I had to ask for help in order to do up the long zipper on my back. I will never forget the embracing feeling I first had as her fabric caressed me and bound closer to my body as the zipper went up, up up.

I was a casual/comfort dresser with a lot of cute and so her fitted lines were defiantly different and I felt her on me. When I turned and looked in the mirror that first time, I was caught off guard and not really sure who I was looking at. I was glamorous and Heidi fit me in ways that I never saw myself as before, all of a sudden my body made sense.

The Heidi was one of many styles of dresses produced by Pin Up Girl Clothing, I would later discover the world of PUG on-line through their website and FB Page. Although that day I did not leave with Heidi, I did with a Deadly Dames Baby doll in skull print because she suited my foot wear at the time of purchase. The city centre Edmonton is 7 hours away from our home.

That day I declared that every time we come back to the city to check on my husband’s rod build, this Rowena’s on Whyte would be number one on my list.

By the time we got home my husband kept asking about Heidi, he wanted to know when she would be joining my closet and told me over and over again how great she looked on me.

It was the first time he was so eager for me to shop and buy clothing it really got me to thinking. I wonder now if he regrets this as my Heidi collection started with the Cherry Print and now boasts 9 other colours.

I soon discovered the shop (Rowena) that introduced me to Heidi would ship orders to me through mail. This opened a world of opportunity and the refinement of my Pin-Up look was now possible even living many miles away and in the middle of the country where the term Pin-Up is unheard of.

For my body style the best invested companion piece to this dress are crinolines/petti-coats. It is a must have for me under this circle skirt to accentuate my hour glass figure. I am in the market for a fuller crinoline than I currently have, I may even consider layering.

I just feel I don’t get the pay off of the dress unless I get a little oomph under it.

To keep the look of my dresses different and fresh I like playing with different belts, cardigans and shrugs. Swapping out my crinoline colour and my hair accessories . I even took up wearing wedges to commit to my look which was a big step from paddock boots (worn about the farm/horses) to then polish my feminine side.

Best check out Rowena’s for yourself, where they can accommodate your head to toe look..

Pin Up Persuasion ~ Contest Entry

Pin Up Persuasion was having a Contest and so I decided at the time to enter about what I know and swear by.. Here is the contest entry..

I decided to jump head first out of my comfort zone to participate in your contest, unsure of my body size and style for many years I came across Pin Up and discovered how it made the bits about me I am insecure about shine.

When I was younger my Grandmother would tell me the success of an outfit was dependent on what was underneath. Since then I have always been strict on myself by making sure I did my part in trying to slim and smooth the lumpy bumpy parts of me I could.

My insecurity of myself kept me in the shadows, I was awkward in dressing my body and I tried desperately to hide myself. Until now, wearing Pin Up has put me front and center as I stand out in a crowd. Shape wear has become an even greater asset to me, it is the one item that I could absolutely not have in my wardrobe to pull off this sexy style. I am different than the rest in my community and because of this and to be comfortable styled like this, I need to know I have made the pallet of my body primed and ready to wear my dresses as well as I can.

I am a plus sized girl and have an ample chest. I have always found it a challenge to get them to sit high and pretty. I also live in a small town which presents the challenge of retail help and because I am weary of internet shopping due to my size (wanting to try it on first) and location I have had limited options unless I get to a larger city center.

The day that I found my main piece of shape wear that I am going to share with you, was like the heavens opened and I heard angels singing. To some this may sound dramatic yet it is nothing short of the truth, this one item really changed my head space about my body and gave me the confidence to walk with my shoulders back and my girls held high.

I have two parts of my body I want to camouflage. One, when wearing a bra I want to reduce any bulge that develops under my breast line as I already have allot up top. The second is that after three children I have a flap of skin that is evident at my pelvis from a c-section scar that I want to reduce.

The Spanx open front Tank Top has done both for me.

It is a long flesh colour tank top with an open front, you wear your bra and there is a cut out that gives your bra extra lift and the side straps give a little push as well. The tank is long enough to go to my hips and cover my second problem area.

The slinky fabric is great as my dresses fall or slip off the fabric so I do not experience bunching. This product does not have allot of compression so it does not cause bunching or bulging out of other areas. The back of the tank has full coverage and also minimizes back bulging. This product is great to wear for casual wear as well, I find if I wear it with jeans it helps the waist band lay flatter and you do not get too hot with this additional layer.

I would say there is only one flaw in this product and that is the straps. Unfortunately my larger chest weighs allot putting pressure on the cut out below my bra line, this causes the straps to dig in a little and because I cannot adjust them I make do because of what it does do. I also use tape to tape the straps to my bra straps as they want to go further off my shoulder due to the extra pressure the tank is under.

I have yet to see a product that could do similar and cover my 2 problem areas until I saw your contest and looked into your shape wear Sponsor Orchard Corset and found a product I am excited to purchase, similar in design it has adjustable straps and greater compression. I had considered a corset yet not sure how I would get it on. I also found other pieces I would like to purchase as I have a wiggle dress I have yet to wear in public as I am conscious of my lumps and lines.

My photo is credit to my 13 year old daughter Hudson whom was photographer and made the collage.

Never in a million years would I imagine submitting a picture of me in shape wear yet I appreciate your contest and feel there will be others that have great pieces to share about.
