My First Pin-Up Pageant..xx

Betty has been taking me on some new and exciting adventures I could not have dreamt of over the past few years.  With my interest in writing my perspective on events I was excited when I came across the REVREV Revival and Pin-Up Pageant as this would be my opportunity to document something new.  I had a very clear intention to want to write about the day’s events and especially about the ladies that would be entering the Pageant.

Who knew I would end up entering the contest myself.  After a photo shoot with the D.I.V.CO in the backyard by Coca and a lot of encouragement by my family I was going to be surrendering to this experience and figured no matter what at least I put myself out there.

As I am out on a farm and a bit of a recluse, BmB’s personality is that we are front and centre on-line yet in the physical world I have a hard time putting myself out there.

I would never imagine what was to come, as soon as I started posting my pictures with links to the on-line portion of the contest you all stepped up and really put me in a position that was unbelievable.  Everyday my numbers grew steadily and my heart softened and my personal walls began to weaken.

This was a big trip for us, we had to consider our farm before we left and it was the first time in three years we had all left the farm together on Vacation.  The drive down to Edmonton was smooth running and our first day we hit our regular spots LG Kustoms to see Pandora and Betsy.  In the afternoon we went downtown Whyte Ave so Coca and I could have girl time in Rowena’s.

That night I went to the Honey Dome to have my hair pin curled in preparation for MUAH the following morning.  It was a full long day and the Pageant was fast approaching. By the time we had gotten back to the hotel the on-line winner was announced and it was official I had won it.  Sitting under a hood dryer I reflected over the past month and all the encouraging words you gave me, it was time for change.

Pin curls

In the morning and after receiving the most amazing hair I could have ever received by Julia Owner of the Honey Dome we made our way our to the Revival.  In our typical fashion we got lost doubting our instinct for direction yet eventually made it, a little late yet we still arrived.

Upon getting out of the truck I took a very deep breathe, I told myself that it was time, it was OK and that I was going to own what you all saw in me.

As I walked across the parking way I emerged from with in myself and had the confidence to see through this day.

After changing outfits I was presented with two sashes by the gorgeous Kortney LovesAlot Miss Hot Rod Hooligan 2012.  One was for being a participant of the Pageant and I wore the #5 and the other a black with purple flower because I was the “On-Line” winner.

I knew I was going to have to pick a vehicle to receive the Hot Legs Award and so I set forth, my notebook and pen I was on a mission.

I approached as many people that I could that were sitting by their vehicles, I had great chats about vehicle makes and models, are they driven, where did they live, so and so forth and as I went along, it got easier.

I was then approached by a young girl, sheepishly she touched my arm and asked if I would come to her parents vehicle to take pictures and it was in that moment I saw all of this experience through different eyes.

I don’t look back into my childhood often and yet I had a very clear feeling/ memory of being that age, being smitten by someone that I saw being in the public eye and then taking the time to ‘see’ me.

As I approached the vehicle I bent over and took the time to talk to her, I asked if she would hold my purse and I gave her a sticker that I had hidden in my purse.  I knew then I had found that side of myself again.

Super CUTE
I went on to find my Hot Legs winner after a great conversation with he and his wife, we had a good chuckle that I recognized the curb feelers and was asked by Digital Moments Photography to take a photo with the said car..!

Shortly after us Pageant girls were asked to go on stage to help call out numbers for the Door Prizes.  At that moment I figured if there was a time I might die that was it once I realized I might just keel over and die, specially once seeing the girls in front of me talking into a microphone..!

As my turn came I remembered Julia’s advice from the Honey Dome and so I took the microphone in my hand and slightly braced myself in anticipation of hearing my own voice and before I knew it numbers were being announced and I was still standing.

Door prizes

After a bit of a break we were called back on stage to do the Pageant.  It was all or nothing yet I was calmly comfortable as I was so happy with my sashes I had no expectations from that point on.

The MC’s were Kortney LovesAlot Miss Hot Rod Hooligan 2012 and First Runner up Paula.  These two brought immediate ease between their jokes and banter and I almost forgot I was on stage.

Paula has such a graceful and natural way of being on the stage and talking, with such ease she talked about the Stollery Children’s Foundation in which the Revival supports through donations and auctions.
As we the contestants were standing in line in the order we arrived Paula brought forth each girl asking questions or saying a something interesting or fact about the girl to keep the crowd entertained.

As we were driving home and really reflecting on the day I came to realise something about what Paula had said about me.  I don’t think to often we get to really hear what others think or perceive of you, we may think up stuff on our own or hear stuff second hand, yet to actually hear her words and speaking so highly of me I nearly came to tears right there on that stage.

I received a very cool VERY custom hand painted leopard and red flamed bowling pin Trophy for the On-line contest and I even won an award for Best Hair..!

I was thrilled to call out Dave Bordman’s name for his Hot Legs Award and his reaction was the best..!

Look at me beaming

REVREV Revival and Pin-Up Pageant 2013

REVREV Revival and Pin-up Pageant 2013

A little over a month ago I was introduced to the Hooligan Car Club through my internet travels and discovered they were in Edmonton, Alberta where we go to see our metal babies.

We planned to attend their Revival to be held in July so I could blog on the day’s events and the Pageant.  After a little coaxing from my family I decided to enter the contest myself.

July 20th arrived and as I walked onto the grounds of the Car Show I was really quite excited by the turn out of cars, there was a LIVE band The Sabre Jets and most of all I was excited to meet the other contestants of the Pageant.

The clutch of hens

These were the gorgeous ladies that were in attendance for the day.. xx

Alexis – the talented swing dancer in a beautiful mint with white polka dot dress and matching shrug.

Kayla- in a Rosey the Riveter inspired cover-alls and hair scarf and note, these are really hers and she has a name patch on them.  Kayla’s talent was painting her own car.

Kayla's Car

Anna Mae- wearing a gorgeous red dress sang a jazz song for her talent portion and hails from Calgary AB.

Sinder Sparks- wearing a smile worth a million dollars and a heart of gold, Sinder sang with the Live band The Sabre Jets.

Cinder Sparks and the Sabre Jets

Laurette- in the Royal blue dress had inspiring upbeat words for us all, Laurette’s great spirit and sense of humour kept times on stage light for me..xx

Carla- in the white with black stripe dress was a first time entry into the Pageant.

Chantel- was our most authentic Doll, she lives a vintage lifestyle and was an awesome hula-hooper..

Through out the day you would find us ladies sprinkled amongst the crowd, holding signs for the burn out competition and mingling with the attendees.  A couple of the dolls showcased their talents on the main stage through song and dance.

In the afternoon we were called upon stage to help call out the numbers for the door prizes and shortly after that the awards were handed out for the Pageant. Seen in this picture was one of the day’s MC, Paula the other not seen was Miss Hot Rod Hooligan 2012 – Kortney LovesAlot.

These two had amazing stage presence and the banter between them was great and kept us entertained.

REVREV Pin-up Pageant 2013

I have entered a Pin-up Pageant..!

I need your help..xx

I have entered my very first Pin-up Pageant, to be held live July 20th in Edmonton Alberta Canada..!

The fun part to the REVREV Pin-up Pageant is there is an on-line component and YOU can help no matter where you are located by voting for me.. Xx

If you follow me on FB or read my blog here you may know I am a stay at home mum of three. I document my experiences living in Northern British Columbia as my personal style is very unique to my area and I am a Pin-up in the middle of the country.

I might be perceived as a contradiction yet once you get to know me it all makes sense.

Entering the REVREVPin-up Pageant  is what I call a perspective expanding experience for me. I am pushing my boundaries and limitations I had once conceived of myself.

You can vote daily by going to the REVREV Blog and finding my name in the Poll Box at the too left corner of your screen.

If you are on a mobile device please scroll to the bottom of the Page and click “view web version” once the Page reloads the Poll Box will appear on the top left corner.

I have one month and I am excited. I know that every time I have successfully gone out there and done the unexpected I am rewarded in ways I cannot imagine.

Feeling a bit Blue.

I was of the greatest fortune to be able to un-expectantly pick up the BLUE Heidi from my recent trip down to Rowena’s in Edmonton, AB.  Of course my immediate reaction was to pull it from the rack because it was in my size; the blue was a different story.

My career in purchasing PUG Heidi’s and Netti’s has been a bit reverse for my shopping experience than most shoppers, I am buying first because of the cut of the dress and then the colour comes second.

A fresh take on shopping because I never really know what colours might end up in my closet.  I do have a blue and white anchor motif Netti yet this was my first solid blue piece.

I was not shocked that I LOVE it and that I will be able to work my magic of swapping out crinolines and belts, this day I chose to go with white yet depending on the look your after what colours you pair this dress with will help direct it to the look.

Other options would be red and black whom I think will lend to a more sophisticated look.

Weather has changed around up here for me so I was excited to have this dress to step into town for my first dress of the season.

Being Blue is not as bad as you might think it is.. xx

Becca’s Bombshells: The Pin-up Art of Becca Whitaker

It has been a defining year for me and I have had a lot of growth with Boss Mare Betty, not only in numbers and fans yet from what I have learned about myself.

This year came with new changes for me, I took on home-schooling my two boys, my time became even more controlled and in the same hand I seemed to take on more and more.

It was time to take Betty to the next level.

If there is one thing I do know about myself is that I am a very visual person, I really adore all kinds of art mediums and am truly enticed and appreciate looking at things that appeal to me.

I have such an abstract way of thinking and I have allot of bigger than life ideas how things might look, it is hard to take a camera picture to encompass all that Betty represents to me in one image.

It came to me since I am not in an environment that Professional photography is an option for me that I should seek an alternative medium to represent Betty’s image.

This is when I was introduced to, Becca’s Bombshells: The Pin-up Art of Becca Whitaker

The art was clean, very well done and regardless of how much was going on in a picture, such as background, small details of tattoos the pieces were not cluttered or complicated.

I was so hooked..!

Becca has been sought out and drawn gorgeous creatures and the most popular and noted Pin-up’s.

Becca is lovely, warm and receptive and I felt safe sharing my ideas and that she would do the best to represent me. As I did not have great reference material for the collaboration I was looking for I knew I was throwing her a challenge and I knew she would be up for it.

One of the key players in my drawing is not even complete yet and we are excited to use Becca’s rendering as a goal to work towards in regards to Betsy my 54 Chevy Two-Ten wagon.

I found it easy to communicate my desires and Becca was super professional and friendly with me through the process.  After sharing my ideas of what I wanted to have included for sure I sent some reference material and Becca said she would get back to me with a general sketch.

Can you say super excited and I was not sure how I was going to wait.

Nearing the completion of the image I got to put in my 2 cents regarding a couple of details that tickled me pink yet I am still in awe how well this image has come together.

I am really glad I went this route and I look forward to the ways I can share this image with others.

If you are in the market to be re-created or you are interested in purchasing this style of imagery check out Becca’s Page, you will be glad you did.. xx

REVREV Rods & Relics Car Show

As I have to rely strongly on the internet to connect with others that enjoy the same genres as I do, I really like to keep my eyes open for clubs in a near location/proximity to me.

It is always a pleasure when you come across a group of people that have similar tastes and essentially become your community.

As Edmonton is the next largest city to me I seem to focus there and work my way out.

Through my favourite clothing store in Edmonton Rowena’s I came across a link to the REVREV Rods & Relics Car Show hosted by The Hooligans Car club.  This is an annual Car show and Pin up Pageant.

This club takes pride in giving back to the community and the club is motivated to raise funds and awareness to the Critical Care Unit of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.

If you are a looking for more details follow the link, for entry details.  If this could not get better entrants for the pageant receive 10% off a purchase at Rowena’s once you have entered.

I am really looking forward to the event and bringing to you pictures of the winning titles.

There will also be an Old School Cart Race sponsored by the Clutch Poppers of Edmonton, make a cart with your kid and bring it down on race day for the fun.

It’s all in the Details..xx

I had been dressing in a Pin-up flavour for sometime, always wearing a hair flower and skirt. It was the girly touches, the details that were embracing the feminine beauty of being a woman.

I came across this quote and it was then I understood and felt a deeper sense of connection.

This is assessable to us all.. xx

*What inspires me most about Pin Ups*

Is that any woman of any

shape, size, nationality, age, income level, kids/no kids, education level,

is allowed to feel Beautiful and Glamorous

Because they are…..

~Sorelle, Pin Up Passion

The many sides to me

I was 18 years old when I went in for my first tattoo.. Not a big surprise, when I was 10 years I remember watching Ripley’s believe it or not about heavily tattooed people..

I knew then that was for me..

That was my first inkling I was not like other people.. Long before the internet or social websites you were either cool or you were not.. I was the latter of the two, I never found a place where I felt I fit..

It was not until horses that I had a sense of being ok with whom I was.. The horse never judged me, didn’t care what I looked like or what I liked to talk about, they just wanted to know the person inside..

I always knew I needed to be around horses, my life took me this way and that way and then I took my life back… My desire of tattooing increased as I aged and did my desire to return to the horses..

I met the man of my dreams.. Allot of similar interests were shared between the two of us.. Mostly that of the horses.  We said from the beginning our dream would be to have horses on property and to think we achieved this..

His passion is VW’s and American Muscle cars and what better way for a girl to participate is through fashion and style of the retro Pin Up girl.. A few years ago I was trying to style my wardrobe with a Pin Up influence, hair flowers and lot’s of cleavage.

I did not know at the time how much I would fall in love with they style and culture and even though we live on a farm and are far away from any city centers where we can participate in car culture I knew I wanted to go full on “Doll”..

I am afforded a wonderful life by my husband, I stay at home, have freedom to care for the animals, have time to go on my spiritual journey with the horses and the ability to dress in as style I would like.. It is not a coincidence to me that my love of my tattoo’s goes hand in hand with the NEW Pin up look and it is also not a surprise that I feel I am more than one person at times..

Being at home on the farm I am either in my pyjamas or running about outside in gumboots and barn cloths YET when we go to town is my time to Doll up as I say..

I cannot be anymore polar opposite to these two images..

The one thing that I know for sure in this life is that I am my own being, I have never felt until this point in my life that there was a place for me.. As I went through the years I tried on many hats and none ever seemed to feel that good..

Technology has given us the ability to self promote and put out there and connect with others that have similar interests or outlooks on life..

I have finally learned no matter what I show up like, as long as I am true to myself, intentions and beliefs I am good.  It’s that internal confidence, the glow that radiates from within.. This is what we should deem attractive or popular in and for people.

I always have taken the long road to figuring things out, very much guided by my intuition or gut feeling.. My perception of life has always been different than others yet has reaped me the rewards of life because I see it with different eyes..

No matter how I show up, at the heart I am always the same person..

It only seemed fitting to make the persona of my Pin up character after my knuckle Tattoo and Bettie Page.. I started the NEW “Boss Mare Betty” FB page to accommodate that side of my personality.  Just as I did with “The Spirit Horse” FB page.

No matter what the page they are all facets of me.. Sometimes it feels easier to identify myself as different characters as they can be so different from each other..

Really how many heavily tattooed Pin Up Dolls do you see with farms and horses ❤

Since writing this Blog for “My Riding Journey FB Group” I have since opened this account and decided it was a good addition to this new site and groups of writings.
